Meet

Katie Spillers

Katie began her 22-year Multifamily career in 2002 as a Leasing Professional. She rose through the ranks being promoted to Leasing Manager, Assistant Manager, Regional Marketing/Training Director, and Property Manager. Katie holds a NALP designation, and both SC PMIC and CPO licenses. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Upper State Apartment Association and the South Carolina Apartment Association.

Katie was named USAA’s 2017 Community Manager of the Year, the recipient of USAA’s 2018 Philanthropy Award, and the 2021 winner of USAA’s Excellence Award. She is a fierce industry advocate and was the 2022 winner of NAA’s Advocate of the Year - the Malcolm N. Bennett Award. Katie joined the law firm of Loebsack & Brownlee, PLLC in 2021 as Eviction Services Manager – Upstate. She is the inaugural chair of the SCAA Legislative Committee, USAA’s Legislative Advocate, the NSC Liaison to the NAAPAC Ambassadors Committee, serves on the NAA Board of Directors as Chair of the NAAPAC Ambassadors Committee, an inaugural graduate of USAA’s Leadership Lyceum program and is a Delegate for Region 4. As USAA’s Legislative Advocate,

Katie has developed relationships with the 3 Congress members representing USAA’s membership. Those relationships have resulted in all 3 members co-sponsoring legislation benefiting the multifamily industry, submitting Questions for the Record, and a representative speaking in support of the YIMBY Act during its House Financial Services hearing.

As a grassroots advocate, Katie has also developed relationships with city and county council members. Serving as the inaugural chair of the SCAA Legislative Committee, Katie has created relationships with members of the SC General Assembly. Within the committee’s inaugural year, members met with stakeholders and bill authors to strengthen language in H. 4158, Domestic Violence in Rental Properties. That legislation narrowly missed passing into law this session and will be re-introduced in the next legislative session. Katie also volunteers as a member of the SC Women’s Affordable Housing Network, the Greenville Affordable Housing Coalition, and the Greenville Homeless Alliance.

These organizations collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to reduce homelessness.

She is married to her high school sweetheart, Brad, and they have a 15-year-old son, Jackson. They live in Taylors, SC with their two dogs, Mr. Max, the Shetland Sheepdog, and Charlotte, the Border Collie.
